JPG, PNG, WebPAbout the Image Sharpen Tool
The Image Sharpen tool runs entirely in your browser. Drop or select an image, drag the Sharpen amount slider from 0 to 100, and click Apply. The tool applies a 3×3 convolution kernel that boosts each pixel by the difference between itself and its neighbors. At 0 the kernel is the identity (no change); at 100 it matches the classic [0,−1,0, −1,5,−1, 0,−1,0] sharpen matrix, producing strong edge enhancement. Intermediate values blend between the two. Download the result as a PNG. Nothing is uploaded to a server — all processing happens locally with JavaScript on your device.
How to use the sharpen tool
- Click the drop zone or drop an image file onto it.
- Drag the Sharpen amount slider — higher for stronger edge enhancement.
- Click Apply to render the effect onto the image.
- Click Download to save the result, Reset to restore the original, or Clear to start over.
Frequently asked questions
What does the sharpen amount mean? 0 leaves the image unchanged. Higher values up to 100 progressively amplify edges and fine detail. Very high values may also amplify noise.
What is the output format? The download is a PNG file. This preserves detail and avoids compression artifacts.
Does this tool upload my images? No. All processing happens locally in your browser. Your image never leaves your device.
Why does a noisy image look worse after sharpening? Sharpening amplifies every contrast change, including noise. For noisy source images, use a lower amount.
